Now I see why Davido is a fan of Ronaldo. That bro is a living example of hard work.
This is not me trying to discredit Wizkid because Wizkid is naturally gifted. His talent is undeniable. But Davido’s story has always been different.
People keep bringing up the fact that he came from a wealthy family as if that alone is enough to make someone a superstar. Come on, this is Nigeria. We don’t stream your songs because your father is rich. We don’t attend your concerts because of your family name. We listen because you have something to offer.
If money was all it took, then all the Ochacho sons would have been topping every chart in the country. But that’s not how this game works.
Davido came and proved that even if you don’t have the sweetest voice in the room, you can still make timeless music. He competed with artists who many people believed were naturally better musicians, yet he refused to be left behind.
One thing people always forget is that Davido didn’t just appear at the top. Bro worked his ass off.
He kept dropping music. He kept improving. He kept showing up. He stayed in Nigerians’ ears for more than a decade, and that’s not something you achieve by luck. The craziest part? He didn’t stop in Nigeria. He didn’t even stop in Africa. He crossed borders and became a globally recognized African artist. He wasn’t just blessed with fame… he went out there and earned it.
So when people come online trying to downplay Davido’s achievements, I just laugh. That dude worked harder than most people are willing to admit.
Think about the artists that were already dominating the industry when Davido came out. Some of them were bigger, some had better vocals, some were considered more talented. Today, many of them are no longer in the conversation. Not because they weren’t good enough, but because staying at the top is harder than getting there.
Longevity is earned.
That’s why I’ve always looked at the Wizkid and Davido debate the same way I look at Messi and Ronaldo.
Messi was blessed with that natural, God-given football ability, what I call “Abini.” Ronaldo, on the other hand, built himself through relentless hard work, discipline and obsession with getting better.
That’s exactly how I see Wizkid and Davido.
Wizkid has that inborn musical ability. Davido worked his way to the very top.
Both are legends. Both deserve their flowers. But if we’re talking about hard work, consistency and refusing to settle, Davido is a different breed.
Davido isn’t just a successful artist.
He’s a legendary work of art created through hard work.
Davido. A Real One. Oriade 001.
